She previously owned a chartered accounting and financial planning business for over 15 years, chaired the National Sothertons Board and acted as board member and adviser to many organizations including the Gladstone Economic and Industry Development Board, and the Gladstone Foundation. Peter is an entrenched member of the Gladstone community and brings over 30 years of experience to the role 14 of those years were spent busy for or with GP. Peter directs and controls GP's business and operational activities, providing leadership by enhancing and developing plans and strategies to ensure brief and long term objectives are achieved. Mike is principal financial adviser to the CEO and Board, and is responsible for managing commercial strategy, commercial agreements with customers, governance and corporate risk management functions. During that time he has been involved with GP's major growth. Gary is responsible for the ports' coming planning, and ensuring that while development continues to occur, the community and environment are considered. The efficient use of port infrastructure is a major focus, and his department plays a key role in the delivery and maintenance of this infrastructure to ensure the existing operations are sustainable. He has been with GP for over seven years and has over 30 years' experience in management and technical roles within the mining, refining and materials processing industries. Allan is responsible for managing all cargo handling activities and associated infrastructure. He has been with GP for eight years and has over 30 years' management experience in regulatory and compliance fields. In 201516 John's team continued improvements to GP's safety systems, improved environmental compliance performance actively participated in the development of Queensland Government initiatives related to the Reef 2050 Long term Sustainability Plan and prepared the port's security plans for the growth in LNG trade and the arrival of the first cruise ships and progressed GP's sustainability, risk management and business resilience efforts. Directors are appointed for a term of three years, but may be reappointed behind that time. Our Board assumes overall responsibility for corporate governance practices within GP and monitors the performance of the Corporation, its management and employees. Ongoing Government, customer, community and employee consultation assists the Board to enact the corporate objectives defined in these plans. Induction of fresh members and continuing professional development. A comprehensive Directors' induction is carried out for new Directors appointed to the Board. The qualifications of the members have been included in Directors’ biographies. The Chairman conducts a review of the skills around the Board table and identifies any skills that may be required in the future. Whilst the Chairman does not himself have the right to appoint Directors, it is acknowledged that shareholding Ministers receive ability requirements into account when appointing Directors. Performance of the Board, its Committees and individual Directors is reviewed and evaluated on a regular basis. The history book series celebrates the Port of Gladstone’s hundred year journey, with each book reflecting on a 20 year period of GP’s stewardship of the port. The first edition explores life before to white settlement, hasty encounters between the beginning Australians and European settlers through to the beginnings of Gladstone Ports Corporation, known at the time as the Gladstone Barbour Board. This edition chronicles the enthralling period, between 1935 and 1954 which saw the beginning pensive development of coal in Queensland, in particular in the Callie Valley. As a consequence of intense lobbying by the Port's board of directors, Gladstone experienced the first of what would become routine explosions of growth and becoming the port of finest for coal exports. The fourth book examines the period from 1975 to 1994, and the visionary economic infrastructure decisions that propelled the Port of Gladstone into a major world class port that facilitated and attracted important scale resource processing industry and a swift expansion in coal exports.
